Information about the history of Moulvibazar District Judiciary
On April 1, 1882, Dakshin Srihatt or South Sylhet Sub-division was established with 26 parganas based on the bazaar established in 1810 AD by Maulvi Syed Kudrat Ullah, the grandson of Syed Shah Mostafa (RA). In 1960, the name of South Srihatt or South Sylhet subdivision was changed to Moulvibazar subdivision, which was elevated to a district on 22 February 1984.
Moulvibazar district is an aesthetic paradise surrounded by hundreds of tea plantations and tea plantations in the northeastern part of Bangladesh. The green nature, the scenic tea gardens, the rich culture of the small ethnic groups with their unique characteristics, the magnificent rains of the monsoons have made this district different from other places in its glory. A dreamy Swapnapuri filled with two leaves of greenery in Moulvibazar district, there is Lauachhara National Park, Madhavpur Lake, Madhavkund Falls, Hamham Falls, Khasia Panpunji, Hakaluki and Hail Haor blue waters and the green horizon of tea gardens. Currently there are 07 upazilas and 05 municipalities in Moulvibazar district.
History of Judicial Department of Moulvibazar District:
After the establishment of Sylhet subdivision on April 1, 1882 AD, the previously established Hingazia Munsefee Court was shifted to Moulvibazar. The then sub divisional munsef was Rai Bahadur Mr. Dinbas Sarkar BA. BL. This court was established at the present district judge's bungalow in the heart of the city. Later, in 1980 AD, the Munsifi Court was shifted from the city's Chaumohana square to the present Superintendent of Police's office building. This court was established at the present district judge's bungalow in the heart of the city. Moulvibazar Sub Judge Court was established on 28.02.1981 AD and 09.06.1994 AD and Additional District Judge Court was established on 18.06.1991 AD. Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Memorandum No-547-JIV/5-C-1, dated: 06.08.1984 AD and Ministry of Law Notification No-3/8Jud-3/IT-3/84, dated: 21.08.1984 AD According to the order given, the judicial and administrative proceedings of the Moulvibazar District and Sessions Judge Court started on 01 September 1984. Mr. Md. Nurul Islam was working as the first district and session judge of Moulvibazar district, who later served as a judge of High Court Division. In 20.02.1995 AD the District and Sessions Judge Court building was shifted to its present location.
Current judicial administration and infrastructure of Moulvibazar:
Moulvibazar District and Sessions Judge Court, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and other courts are operating in the heart of the district town. After the victory in the Great War of Liberation, the first flag hoisting place in Moulvibazar, a mural was built to pay tribute to the great Liberation War and the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
At present 02 Additional District and Sessions Judge Courts including District and Sessions Judge Courts, 02 Joint District and Sessions Judge Courts, 01 Land Survey Tribunal, 02 Senior Assistant Judge Courts and 04 Asst. Proceedings of the Judge's Court.
Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal:
The judicial proceedings of the Moulvibazar Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal established on 27.01.2003 AD are being conducted from the District Judge Bhavan. The first judge of the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal was Mr. Md. Jasim Uddin.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Court:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Moulvibazar was established in Moulvibazar on 01.11.2007 AD after the separation of Judiciary in the light of historical Mazdar Hossain Roy. Mr. Md. Mahbub Morshed served as the first Chief Judicial Magistrate of Moulvibazar, a judicial magistrate who is determined to deliver justice at the earliest. At present judicial magistracy is being administered through 01 Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Courts, 03 Senior Judicial Magistrate Courts, 04 Judicial Magistrate Courts. Baralekha Chowki Court is located in Baralekha as it is far from the district town. The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court under construction is an eight-storied building, with judicial proceedings being conducted up to the fifth floor.
District Legal Aid Office:
The activities of District Legal Aid Office, Moulvibazar are ongoing to ensure the rights of the poor, oppressed and underprivileged people of the society. Already, the District Legal Aid Office has become known as the Center for Dispute Resolution in the District's Alternative Dispute Resolution System. The District Legal Aid Office is located on the fourth floor of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Building. An officer of the rank of Senior Assistant Judge is presently serving as Legal Aid Officer.
Despite of various structural limitations, Moulvibazar Judiciary is strongly committed to fulfilling the promises of the state of Bangladesh and establishing the rule of law and ensuring justice and building Sonar Bangla, the dream of the father of the nation.
